Zone defense is different from man-to-man defense in that, instead of guarding a particular player, each zone defender is responsible for guarding an area of the floor, or "zone", and any offensive player that comes into that area.
has perfected the 2-3 zone. The 2-3 zone defense is the most commonly used zone defense. It has the advantage of protecting the inside, lane area, and keeps your "bigs" inside. Its weakness is it is vulnerable to good outside shooting, with open areas on the wings, point and high post. Zone verdediging Bij deze manier van verdedigen, heeft de verdediger niet, zoals bij een man to man verdediging een bepaalde speler te verdedigen, maar een bepaald deel van het veld. De verdediger richt zijn aandacht dan ook voornamelijk op de bal en niet op de aanvaller die de bal vastheeft.
Verdediging is vrij om te kiezen op wie ze gaan verdedigen, wel actieve D, geen positie innemen in of rond de bucket. Speler die afwerkt of de bal verliest valt terug aan samen met de 2 verdedigers. Aan de overzijde staan ondertussen al 2 nieuwe verdedigers klaar.
